Orion Nebbs asked T.J. Klune:

Hi T.J. Thanks so much for your fabulous novels. As someone who writes predominantly for the Gay and Lesbian genre, do you think one day the genre will merge into more mainstream, despite the fact your protagonists are categorised as LGBT. Do you think we'll ever see something like "Wolfsong" on the shelf of general fantasy, without the need to specify it in a Gay and Lesbian category?

T.J. Klune Thanks for the question! And honestly, to answer in full would probably take more room than I have here. Short answer? Maybe. There is a need for the LGBT category, I think. Case in point: Goodreads and Amazon. They do their year end best book awards, right? They don't have a LGBT category, and therefor, only a couple of LGBT books get nominated every year. Their argument, from what I can tell, is that if a book is good enough, it should be able to stand against those in "general" categories. I disagree, but again, that's another post entirely. I do think, however, that we'll see more LGBT along side other titles more in YA than in New Adult or Adult, at least for the foreseeable future. Hell, het romance still deals with the stigma to this day that it's not "real" literature. Until they sort that out, what chance do those of us who write queer romance have to be taken seriously?
