Hi Mark, You've said before that you don't have a plot outline in your head before you start writing. I was fascinated by the scenes in Red Sister that were set in the future which has taken the characters development in an unexpected direction. Did you have an idea of how they would get there, or did you write these scenes more as a challenge, so that you would have to figure it out?

Mark Lawrence No, I had no idea who Thorn or Lano Tacsis were or why he brought an army to kill her.

In fact at the end of book 1 I still didn't know what had changed to have him turn up at the convent.

It's fun to throw stuff out and then see if I can link it all together.

I still need to get around to reading Book of the Ancestor(will probably wait till the series is finished because I hate the anticipation between books) and from what I've read online it's much more YA than your previous trilogies. As someone who fell in love with the darkness and violence and all around edginess of Prince of Thorns I was wondering if you were planning on returning to a more adult-oriented grimdark?
