Molly Alfsen I thought it had to do with the fact that the ghosts, especially Richie, were looking to the past for help through the door. Richie thought he needed to hear the whole story of his death to pass on. But what really needed to happen was for someone to sing their story, like Kayla does. I think a reason that the unburied are stuck on this side is that their violent and unjust ends are forgotten. Kayla brings justice by singing their song.
