Two of my favorite authors (yourself included, of course) have books or series that involve John Dee. So I was wondering, for your series was John Dee a person you knew you wanted to incorporate somehow into a story, or did his involvement happen as the elements (pun intended) of the story unfolded?

Carol Goodman A little of both. I'd come across John Dee in my reading and he seemed like an intriguing character. As the story unfolded, he seemed like an interesting character to explore. We've probably made him too evil--there's no reason to think the real John Dee was! So my apologies to you if you're a John Dee fan!
