What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Mara Rutherford Writing is the only thing in my life that belongs to just me. Before writing, I defined myself by the people around me: I was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, etc. I'm still all those things, of course, but I really discovered who I was as a writer. It also helps that I can do it anywhere, since my husband was a Marine and is now a diplomat!

Nor is one of the most sensible and mature female protagonists I ever read about! She's my favorite character! She's neither cruel nor powerless. You created a perfect balance within her!
