How do you get inspired to write?

Mara Rutherford I am inspired to write by all kinds of things: music, photographs, random things that people say. Usually an idea starts out super small and I ignore it for a while. If it hangs around and starts building in my imagination, I continue to give it time to develop before I start writing. If it sticks around long enough (for several months at least), I know it's something I need to write!
