Sorry for the delay, AE! Yes, it is always better for me to visit a place in person. Places have that ineffable something that I can't get from reading about it. Of course, I also don't necessarily capture it in my own writing either, but I have to try.
I have never written about a place in an extensive way without visiting. So: Ohio, California, Delft, Lyme Regis, Paris, the Cevennes, London - I've spent time in all of them, just for the writing.
My next book after the one I'm writing now: I confess I would LOVE to set a book in Italy, simply so that I can spend a lot of time there!

Any news on a Falling Angels sequel? It's my favorite of your books, and I've been hoping for years that you'll be returning to those characters very soon! The book sparked my interest in cemeteries and graveyards, and I finally got to visit Highgate Cemetery last year (both sides). Great to have a solid visual for the next time I re-read the book!

HI, have read and sometimes re read all of your wonderful books. I just a comment regarding the Unicorn tapestries and your response (altho I cannot find that right now) Want to mention that you don't have to go as far as Paris to see some very very WONDERFUL Unicorn tapestries at the Cloisters in NYC. Not only are they are treasure, but the entire Cloisters is magical.. hope you get a chance to go there?
