A.E. Chandler
A.E. Chandler asked Tracy Chevalier:

Do you find it easier to write about places that you've visited in person, as opposed to places that you've only visited in your imagination?

Tracy Chevalier Sorry for the delay, AE! Yes, it is always better for me to visit a place in person. Places have that ineffable something that I can't get from reading about it. Of course, I also don't necessarily capture it in my own writing either, but I have to try.

I have never written about a place in an extensive way without visiting. So: Ohio, California, Delft, Lyme Regis, Paris, the Cevennes, London - I've spent time in all of them, just for the writing.

My next book after the one I'm writing now: I confess I would LOVE to set a book in Italy, simply so that I can spend a lot of time there!
