I'm about half way through this collection, and enjoying it well enough. While reading the story "Try to Remember", I was struck by the similarity to Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life", (made into the movie "Arrival"). There are so many similarities I wonder, was Chiang deliberately referencing Herbert's earlier work?

I've just read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_o... and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrival.... The only similarities I can see in plot are those that are inevitable in three stories about an alien-language puzzle. The dissimilarities are glaring--between the film and Chiang's story, let alone Herbert's. So unless there are textual similarities independent of those created by the plots, I'd bet no.
