Great question!
1) Although I've written 300,000 words (700 pages), only 7 of the 54 chapters are ready for viewing. I need a year to make the whole book ready for editing.
2) The publishing process is slowwwwwwww!
Even if I finished the book today, the official pub date wouldn't be until the end of this year.
It needs editing (2-6 months), cover design, printing (1-2 months), marketing (6 months).
Yes, a self-published author could skip the editing, use print-on-demand, and skip the marketing and get the book out in 1-2 months after completing the final draft. Some do that. It's tempting. But I prefer giving time.
3) It would be cool to launch May 25, 2020: it's the 60th anniversary of the year of Africa. It's also Africa Day. Auspicious! :o
