Amber asked Lois Lowry:

While I was reading a description from a favorite book-adapted film of mine, I read that the author of the original novel helped to write the screenplay for the movie. The movie followed the basic plot of the book. I feel that "The Giver" film respected the book, too. Which brings me to my question: Did you have a hand in writing the screenplay for the film adaptation of "The Giver"?

Lois Lowry No, the screenwriting credits go to Robert Weide and Michael Mitnick, both of them very competent screenwriters. But I was given the screenplay to read before filming began, and asked to make comments and suggestions, which I did.
