I would like to see more biographies of important historical figures in Chinese history. I would even like to read a good, well written biography of Chairman Mao. Are they out there and I am just not aware of them?

As far as I know, there's a biography of Mao by Jung Chang & Jon Halliday, entitled "Mao: The Unknown Story". I haven't read it as I reckon there's no way of finding out whether it is historically accurate, not least because China has banned any discourse on the subject.

She studies the languages, history, literature and philosophy of the three major cultures. Was it typical for concubines to be encouraged to be both "athletic and knowledgeable?" Was there a school for concubines or how were they chosen (from nobility, perhaps)?
