Hi Ms. Lowry, I am an educator in Japan at a high school and college. You have mentioned how Shibuya is like "Elsewhere" beyond the community of the Giver. When you wrote about the conformist society of The Giver (everyone dressed the same, etc.), did you have Japan in mind? Who then, are the Elders? The LDP?

Lois Lowry No, I didn't have Japan in mind. I remembered Tokyo...and Shibuya...and part of the colorful, vibrant world from which I was separated
