I am wondering if you are part of a community of children's authors. Do you talk with others children's authors as part of your writing process? Does reading other contemporary children's authors influence you? Who do you think are some of the most promising new children's authors? I enjoyed hearing your speak at the Magic Lantern in Bridgton, but didn't have time to ask my questions :) Thank you.

I have many friends who are other children's authors. But I don't confer with them about work. Unlike many writers...I don't like talking about work in progress.

Movies have that oh-too-real quality that often make a reader cringe when books they love (as I and so many others have loved The Giver) are turned in to films. I suspect you're not free to give your real reaction, but I can't help but wonder what your reaction was to the movie adaptation. Was there a part of The Giver that you were surprised or disappointed that was left out of the movie? Pat
