Lukasz asked Craig Schaefer:

Hi Craig, After finishing Revanche Cycle I decided to read all your books. At the moment I'm on book three of Faust series. It's possible I'm just impatient and my question is answered in books 4-7 but would you be able to write more about Daniel; friends powers? Jennifer has some crazy dope blood magic, I would love to know more about their powers extent.

Craig Schaefer Magical techniques, in Faust’s world, tend to be jealously guarded and passed down through tight channels. For instance, Jennifer learned blood magic from her mother, who learned it from her mother, and so on. Likewise, everything Daniel knows came from Bentley and Corman. Learning a specific style involves so much memorization, practice, and internalized symbolism that picking up someone else’s methods isn’t impossible, but very, very difficult and time-consuming.

So far, there hasn’t been a lot about the specifics of magic in the setting, because I try to only introduce setting details and world-building if it’s going to be directly important to the plot. There will be some of that later in the Wisdom’s Grave trilogy, however. The difference between how magic works in the Revanche Cycle and how it works on Faust’s Earth (i.e., the reason Faust and his friends don’t even know about shadow-sickness, while it’s a major risk to the Revanche’s witches) will be an important part of the story in book two.
