I'm reading (or rather, listening) to Ordination right now. There have only been a couple of fights so far, the largest being with the slavers, and it's clear you've studied medieval/Renaissance martial arts. Are you involved in ARMA or a HEMA group, or are you studying period fight manuals on your own?

It wouldn't quite be truthful to say I've studied HEMA or ARMA or read period fight manuals. The only martial art I've studied at all, really, is western boxing. I did do some research into the combat that goes into the books, and strive for a verisimilitude, where the fighting feels real (enough) for the reader. I also have a close friend and beta reader who does study and compete in HEMA and other martial arts, and I got tips from him as I worked. I'm glad that the fighting feels real enough for this question to come up, and I hope you continue to enjoy Ordination.
