Goodreads asked James Firelocke:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

James Firelocke Two points, the first of which may seem kind of boring, but it is actually important.

1) Learn a practical skill so that you can make a living doing something you actually like or can tolerate. Honestly, jobs that don't require you to stare at a screen all day are best. Teaching is probably a good job for aspiring writers. Or something involving hands-on work.

2) Read and write constantly in your spare time, but also take periodic breaks from writing to let your creative powers rejuvenate and evolve.
