Is this book necessary to read before following with The Decay of The Angel? I know...it's a lazy, silly question, but for some reason, I'm having a lot of trouble persevering through this one, even though I was able to enjoy Spring Dawn and Runaway Horses (also The Decay of The Angel just sounds so much more interesting than The Temple of Dawn).

I strongly recommend reading them in sequence. Decay of the Angel, the final book in the series of 4, is by far the most intriguing especially when you consider that Mishima commit suicide just after submitting it to his editor. I believe he felt his death was really the "final chapter". All 4 books are riveting, can't imagine how they would be in original Japanese, but Mishima himself was very fluent in English and a stickler for details so I'm sure he had a say in the translations, except for the last one...
