Cintia asked Rachel Van Dyken:

I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?

Rachel Van Dyken Im sorry about your frustration, it is hard, but its worth it, so dont give up. Honestly if you have an original idea and you see another author have something similar, that doesn't mean you can't still write your story. Say you want to write a college romance about a small town girl and the bad boy, that story has been done and beaten to death and people still READ It because every author has their own voice, their own take on a story and on human emotion. I say write the story you want to write and get it out there, get good beta readers who can read and help you revise, and self pub first before you try traditional. Most big five publishers aren't giving out contracts to unknown authors (Unless you write YA or Women's fiction), make a name for yourself, establish your brand, self publish, and keep writing ;)
