A Goodreads user asked Genevieve Cogman:

I've spent the time waiting for my copy of "The Lost Plot" to arrive with creating some scribbles of how I imagine your characters. And this made me wonder: what's your opinion about fanart/fanfiction of your books?

Genevieve Cogman I'm very flattered if people create fanworks based on my books - it's fantastic to think that they've been inspired by something I wrote.

However, while I am happy to see fan art based on the books, I think it would be inappropriate of me to read any fanfiction. It raises the whole potential issue of "where did you get that future idea", and I think it's safer if I steer well clear of it. This doesn't mean I don't want people to write fanfiction! (I've written fanfic myself.) It just means that I don't think I should read it.

I hope that makes sense...
