I noticed that from The Giver to Son, all the characters have no last names. This makes me think about women changing their last names after married and the children are given their paternal family names. I think it's an old-fashioned sexist attitude.The absense make me wonder if that can eliminate the beliefs that women being properties of men. Is that your idea?

Lois Lowry I was conscious of thinking that when I wrote the books. But it is an interesting idea!
