I haven't read this yet, but hypothetically, if I read this book and find it extremely well written, informative, and compelling, but I disagree with his thesis, should I give it one star so as to vote down any book written by a conservative author? It's what all the cool liberal kids are doing these days on Goodreads.

VDH doesn't mix history with modern politics. Here he writes analytically and with excellent, detailed research. I sense no political agenda here at all. His thesis is to examine why the allies won, and the axis powers lost. His focus is on the mobilization and coordination of resources, and the technologies both sides utilized or failed to utilize. He doesn't get into causes, conspiracies, or political agendas of the time. It is a strange focus on the conduct of the wars. Why would you even consider posting a negative without reading the material? That is symptomatic of true ignorance.

Sure, but slant it appropriately, otherwise you might get caught out. IOW, don't bother to read it; just slam his politics if you plan to go the cool kid route. Or if you do read, make sure you don't reveal that tidbit. Or just go with the honest review. You won't be loved by the cool kids, but your honor will be intact.

Victor Davis Hanson and I are on different ends of the political spectrum, but I enjoy reading his military histories and get a lot out of them. I just finished this book and gave it five stars. I like that he has a viewpoint and that he provides support for that viewpoint. Nothing wrong with conservatives or liberals being challenged. On the contrary, we all need to rethink rigid positions, recognize the benefits to our country of both liberal and conservative thoughts, and appreciate the benefits of our diverse society has given and continues to give our nation.

Now that is seriously funny.
