Dear Lisa, I fell in love with your books a few summers ago reading Snow Flower. With the exception of book club, I haven't been able to put your books down. I just wondered, do you ever get attached to a character and feel sad when their story is done? I read Shanghai Girls, and was immediately left longing for the next phase of the story. Dreams of Joy did not disappoint, however I miss the Sisters.

Dear Carrie, Somehow Goodreads didn't send me a bunch of questions until a couple of days ago. You wrote your question ten months ago!!! I'm so sorry it's taken this long for me to write back.
Yes, I get very attached to characters. Some, like Sam, just break my heart. I knew what he was going to do and I couldn't find a way to save him. Others, like Lily in Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, still speak to me almost daily.
I hope I don't sound crazy...

I'm almost out of your novels to read, and I'm holding off on reading "Peony in Love", the only one I haven't read yet, because I simply don't know what to do once I've finished it. Do you have any recommendations for me that I can look forwards to after this last novel? Good historical fiction books on China, or on anything else? Oh, and are you working on or planning any projects in the future?
