Hi Lois! My question is how hard was it for you to connect all the parts of what is now dubbed the Giver Quartet so seamlessly and beautifully because i love books that can connect and enable you can backtrack and exclaim 'I got that reference!' I would love to one day write a series like that with hidden easter eggs much like yours!

It wasn't easy. I had to draw charts in order to figure out who was where, and when. The books cover fourteen years!

When The Giver was written, I'm sure people weren't as sensitive about all the innocent touching that goes on in the book. But nowadays, scenes like the bath scene or the giver putting his hands on the receiver's bare skin unfortunately stands out as uncomfortably sexual. Do you find yourself shying away from these situations now, or do you still see the innocent beauty in it and write hoping that others will as well?

The Giver has been one of my favorite books since I first read it in elementary school (in '94-'95). I am thrilled about its big screen debut, but wish it hadn't been so long in the making. What are your feelings about the film version? Do you wish it had happened years ago, before this recent flare of young adult dystopian novels-turned-movies?
