Why do reviewers feel obliged to tell the whole story? Silly me I kept reading them, upside,I do't need to buy the book!

Teresa One of my pet peeves is people writing ABOUT the book instead of what they THINK ABOUT the book!!

Believe me when I say, the book is much better than some 7th grade synopsis of the book.
Cheri Juhasz Agreed! I hate that. I already read what the book is about. I write my reviews for myself. A year or two later I can go back and see if I read it and my reviews are to the point.
Judy Lindow Yes, I agree. We can read the summary here, in Amazon, or the book flap. I was surprised to read someone was offended by this. They claimed they retold the story to remind themselves what the book was about ... which leads me to wonder why they don't read the summary here, the book flap ... I want opinions! Sometimes if I hate a book or love it they're like a reality check, I get a different POV it's like sharing ideas in a book club. I did take notes to myself once for a non-fiction - but I gave a caveat at the start.
Vicki Renee But you do still need to read the book because synopses don't give every detail and nuance of the story.
Caroline I agree with you. I, too, am guilty of occasionally writing too much, especially with respect to books that I really, really enjoyed, but then I realized that it's just not necessary. No one wants to read book reports masquerading as reviews.
