Read Autumn first, only because it is so very wonderful. And if you are going to read the entire quartet, why not start at the beginning. As Alice is told, you should always begin at the beginning, go through the middle, and end at the end.

There are some connections with "Autumn", but they are not really important ones. There are two characters who appear in both books, but one is minor in "Autumn" and the other minor in "Winter". There are also thematic links about art and generation gaps, but those can work alone in either book.

Yes you can. I read Autumn first, then Winter, but while the style of writing is similar, there's no carry forward of characters or story line. I preferred Autumn, though.
Alessandra
I did, but I might have missed something because of this. It might be better to ask someone who has actually read Autumn.

I don't think it's essential to read Autumn first as winter can stand alone. But the flow, the style and overarching political landscape of the novels and how they shape the characters have urged me to continue through the quartet. And Autumn is so wonderful.
Rick
You can, but you shouldn't.
Henry
Read Autumn first, its great (though not as great as Winter) Daniel Gluck is Art's real dad! So actually (just saying) a MASSIVE link between the books. They are entwined (divine, divine) IMO
Carolina
Actually I read Autumn first, and I'm leaving winter for Christmas holidays. I'm not sure I got everything from the book, though.
