Ajá Bryant
Ajá Bryant asked Kendare Blake:

Could you explain a little more about the dynamic between the Queens/people of the island, and the mainland people? I could never get a feel for if they are ruled by the queen of the island, or if they just respect/revere them. What is the relationship between the two?

Kendare Blake Sure! The people of the island are ruled by (and revere) the Queen Crowned. During her reign, she rules the island as any other king or queen would. She is advised by her Black Council, many/most of whom she appoints. And then, when her triplets come (a few or up to 40-some years later, depending on the queen) her Black Council rules for her until the new queens come of age and is crowned.

As for the mainland, they used to be treated as other nations, but once the mist arrived to hide/protect the island, they are virtually forgotten, except for the suitors during the Ascension, and the winning king-consort's country who gets that generation's alliance.

Does that help?
