Goodreads asked Erika Robuck:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Erika Robuck These dead writers who become the subjects of my books are leading me one to the other. Hemingway led me to Fitzgerald. Then, while I was researching the Fitzgeralds at Princeton, I stumbled upon two of Fitzgerald's classmates who had an affair with the poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay. I had heard of her poetry, but not her scandalous lifestyle. After a visit to her estate, Steepletop, in the Berkshires, I became inspired to weave her into a novel.
