Does anyone else feel like the C.J. Box Joe Pickett series is a little bit of a rip-off of this series? I like them both, but just feel like there are a lot of similarities in the feel of the characters.

So, if I like William Kent Krueger, I might like this series by C. J. Box? I ask because I'm looking for a new series.
Bill Jenkins
No, not at all. I read C J Box first before turning to this series. I think C J Box novels are better. There's too much melodrama in this story. How many affairs do you need in a detective novel?
Picky Virgo
Nope. I’ve read all of C.J. Box’s books, and I really don’t see it.

A bit. Having read 4 or 5 in the Joe Pickett series, several recently before starting Iron Lake, I feel the similarities between the two main characters. But I don't feel any 'rip off' at all. Both are strong lawmen, with strong morals working outside the 'Good ole boys' network. I think the story lines stand fine on their own.

Not really feeling that, either. Some similarities, but enough difference to make them very separate feels.

The same guy reads the audiobook versions of both series, so I really felt like I was in a Joe Pickett book for a lot of the series. But Joe is different from Corc (probably slightly more "less flawed" in my opinion).
Joe is a game warden out in Wyoming and Corc is a private detective in Minnesota, so that is different as well.

I don’t see the similarities other than they both take place out west. Joe Picket is an honest upright man. Sheriff Cochran has a whole lot of issues. I enjoyed the two books I’ve read in this series but I LOVE the Joe Picket series.
Susie
I have thought the same thing. I noticed the similarity right away. Still enjoying both series though!
Dan
Slightly, yes. The loveable crime-solver guy. I read Box first... didn't realize this series was written first.
