Do I need to read this series in strict chronological order? Thanks!

Sally Atwell Williams No,not necessarily, but it does help to read the first four or five to get a feel for the main character and his life.
Earlece I’ve been reading the Robicheaux novels for years, and find him haunting. Reading the earlier books (some are better than others) will enhance your enjoyment.
Susan It is worthwhile to read all of them in order.
Patricia It helps. You will enjoy any of them as a stand-alone, but because there are references in each book to previous events, it makes more sense, if you intend to follow James Lee Burke, to try to read them in order.
Charlene Roberson I would agree with the other responders and mentioned that in my review of this book. If you don't know the players and how they fit together, you may be a little lost.
Sheila I agree with the other reviewers. Read a few earlier books in the series to get acquainted with the characters as they grow and change over time.
Keith If Robicheaux is referred to as Streak it’s due to a white patch in his hair from malnutrition as a child. Didn’t get this until I read early books.
Ruthann Bow How is the language?
Nancy What is the order of the books
Julie Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. You've been most helpful!
