David Wong I first wrote the main villain that way before the "sadistic teenage internet harasser" became a thing in the popular consciousness (early 2000s), I was just trying to write the opposite of the suave, smooth-talking devil or Hannibal Lecter style criminal genius, but without going with the "clearly mentally ill so that's scary" slasher movie thing. But yes a godlike being that has the malformed morality of a high school sophomore is about the scariest thing I can imagine. It's someone who can't be reasoned with because they don't make their decisions based on reason, they're just doing whatever amuses them.

I didn't invent it, of course, there was a whole Twilight Zone episode like that.
