Hey Mr Reintgen, My question is, I often get discouraged reading the work of other authors (such as yourself) because I realize that my own will likely never be as good. Did you ever feel this way while writing? And, if so, how did you overcome it? Also, had you written/published anything else prior to Nyxia? Thank you so much for taking the time to acknowledge your readers. It really means so much. God bless!
Scott Reintgen
Hey Logan,
While I appreciate the compliment, I'd encourage you not to think in such comparative terms. I can't write as well as George R.R. Martin. But you know who I write far better than? Me from a year ago. Me from five years ago. Me from ten years ago. That's the comparison I'd encourage you to monitor. Put in the time, the effort, and the passion. And watch what happens as the years pass.
As to your questions, yes, of course I've felt that way. I've read works by authors that level me... but I'm at a point now where it excites me. I try to look at what they did well, and if there are any tools I can add to my arsenal from what they wrote.
You are going to write stories that only you can write. I am going to write stories that only I can write. So work hard and write the best ones that you can.
Finally, I did write stories before Nyxia. Two books that were sent out to hundreds of agents. And neither of them found a home. I'd definitely tell you that the reason they didn't land with an agent or publisher is because I just wasn't quite good enough yet. But I got better. I kept writing.
You can do the same. I look forward to reading the stories you'll write!
