Goodreads asked Stacy McAnulty:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Stacy McAnulty I'm a big believer in the butt-in-the-chair method. If I show up and put my fingers on the keyboard, the ideas also show up. Eventually. Sometimes the good ideas are buried under slimy, stinky bad ideas. I can only get to the gold by digging through the muck. It's just part of the job.

Now, if I get really stuck, I don't walk away from my desk. Instead, I work on a different writing project. And because the human brain is so cool, it continues to (subconsciously?) think about the first issue. A solution or idea may suddenly present itself. This reward for showing up and doing the work every day.
