Can this be read as a stand-alone? I have not read the prior 2 books but this book sounds great.

Cecilie Krogh Having read the two other books, you should absolutely read the two first books before starting on the third one. The Orphan X series is after all a triology, with a connection throughout the whole story, even though different settings and happenings are introduced in each book.
Not only that, the series itself is breath taking, and when I first started reading I wasn´t anle to place the book away
In other words, you can read it as a stand-alone, but ti will make more sense by reading Orphan X and The Nowhere Man first
Karin Schott Why deprive yourself of the other two? There is still time to read the first two, now in Mass Market for 9.99. It will make reading the third so much more satisfying.
Robert Theoretically, it works as a stand-alone, contained narrative -- but if you read the first two books before this one, your appreciation and enjoyment will be much greater.
Steve I agree with "Katie" that it would be more a fair assumption of reading the 2 prior books
Hendrata I bought this book because it was on sale on the "Staff Pick" section in a small family-run bookstore (so I trust their "pick" because I know them). I read this book first before reading the first two books, and I didn't get confused at all. The book does a good job explaining what you need to know without being repetitive. That being said, you should still read the other two books, because they're all awesome.
Robert Yes it can be a standalone. You won't have the full background but there is a condensed version mixed in. Or read the first volume and then the third, the second isn't as good and after reading all 3 it's getting repetitive.
Tad It can be read as a standalone, but you'd probably be better off reading at least the first book. Reading the second one too would fill you in a little more, but if you can't wait you can jump from 1 to 3. They are all good, and I read this one in 2 days so they are quick reads.
Katie Seehusen I haven't read the book yet, but just from reading the description I think you should read the first 2 books. They are really good, so if you think this book sounds interesting you should like the first 2.
