The Chilbury Ladies' Choir is about the empowerment of women. Is this a subject that is very special to you?

The women in the book all become more empowered as a result of the events, and I did this purposefully to show how the war, with all the men gone, allowed women to come into their own. Not only did they gain control over their own lives, but they also began to reshape the world around them, including the choir itself, to their own purposes.
