Lois Lowry Actually, long before NUMBER THE STARS was written, a number of my books were very popular. So I didn't need for things to "improve"! I was happy as they were! Advice for starting writers? Pay no attention to trends or market strategies or gimmicks. Pay attention to the story, the words, the sound and feel of them, the cadence and pacing.
