Perhaps this question is only for those who are law--trained. There's a moment in the book when the judge calls Gamache and the Crown Prosecutor into chambers. She does NOT include the defense attorney. It needs to be with way for the plot--I get that--but this would be nearly unthinkable in the US. Is Canadian law different? Or do I just need to suspend disbelief in order to make the story work.
