I originally thought the Bear and the Nightingale was a stand-alone book. Did you plan for it to be a trilogy? Or did that happen after its success? I'm so thrilled that there will be another one coming out soon!

Good question! I always planned for Winternight to be a trilogy. It was sold as a trilogy in a three-book deal. That being said, I am personally not a fan of cliffhangers between books, and so each book has a plot that stands on its own and can be read independently. There are unanswered questions between books, but the major plot threads in each book are self-contained.

It is interesting to find that you are a fan of Robin McKinley because I just compared your writing style to hers when recommending your book to a friend. Do you feel that Robin McKinley influenced your writing style? I am excited to start The Girl in the Tower very soon!
