Comment on this Penguin Classics edition - is it common to feature a spoiler in the Introduction? Perhaps I'm naïve to this practice, but, I was pretty irritated.

Chantal The Classics series introductions aren't really meant for casual readers, they're meant for someone reading for more scholarly objectives. They're really more intended to give you an idea of themes and interesting bits you might want to think about as you read critically. I suggest you never read an introduction by an editor until after you've read the book.
Charles Bill McKenny I read the introduction last. I usually do that.
Savannah Yes, common.
Elfkin477 I'm very familiar with the 1963 movie (and 1999, though it's a much looser adaptation) so the spoiler's content wasn't a shock, but the fact that they mentioned Nell's fate at the end of the book in the intro was shocking. I imagine that anyone coming to the story without any previous adaptation-based knowledge would be furious.
