My friend first started reading The Giver and immediately goes "This is just like Divergent!" (I told her "No, Divergent is just like The Giver!") Have you ever read any books similar to yours and wished you added anything into the dystopian society you created?

I'm intrigued by a society that strives to be better in its safety and sameness. So many details in The Giver make the fictional world real, like receiving bicycles at the same time, or speech protocols to keep conversations predictable. I wonder if there were other details or systems you considered for this world that were ultimately not included in the book, and if that was the case, why not?
