Jennifer Cronk
Jennifer Cronk asked Lois Lowry:

I'm currently re-reading "The Giver," in anticipation of the upcoming movie. I've been surprised (I don't know why) at how this book transcends time and has a new audience each decade. Why do you think we seem to have this universal hunger for a 'utopian' world, and how did you go about creating the one in your book? I'd also be curious to hear your thoughts on the 'Utopia' show that Fox is about to premier.

Lois Lowry I'm not familiar with the "Utopia" show so I'll reserve my judgment. But certainly it is true that we hunger for a perfect world. It can never happen, of course. Man's reach should exceed his grasp, else what's a heaven for?
