I find the concept of the The Giver and the idea that the society depends on one person to bear the pain and memories of the entire community a very interesting concept generally. I also loved the ending because it was so beautifully written and you left it to the readers to decide what happened. What was your inspiration for that part of the story, and also the ending?

Lois Lowry The concept of a scapegoat exists in many pieces of literature, most notably "the Lottery" by Shirley Jackson and most hauntingly "Those Who Walk Away form Omelas" by Ursula LeGuin
