Goodreads asked Keith R.A. DeCandido:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Keith R.A. DeCandido Write. Put your ass in the chair, put your hands on the keyboard, and write. If you don't do that, you're not a writer.

Finish what you start. The ratio of novels that have been started to novels that have been finished is about a gajillion to one. If you don't finish your story, you're not a writer.

After you finish it, work to get it published and start on the next thing. Writers rarely have only one story to tell.

Finally, don't take rejection personally. Take it professionally, because it's your work being rejected, not you.
