Hello! I'm trying to solve the code on the cover of the Assassin's Curse, and I'm confused as to which way the code goes. Does it go horizontally, like 'ficnhfmz, etc.' or vertically, like 'fhmiwbijtw, etc.'? I appreciate any help!

I read a question and you answered with "It will still make some sense because no matter what happens afterward, the 6th book will close out the storyline with the Raven". and I can't help myself and wonder could there be another evil villain after the raven bound to make his/her appearance or is it set in stone that this is the end of Christopher's story? Loved children of the fox btw.
