Kristin N asked Isabella May:

Hi Isabella, I enjoyed your debut novel Oh! What a Pavlova. One of the scenes that really grabbed me was when the main character Kate Clothier visits a museum and sees Munch's The Scream. This was a very powerful scene in the development of the novel and I could see it in my mind like a movie. My question is, how did you come up with this scene? (Without giving too much away to those who haven't read it yet :) )

Isabella May OMG, Kristin! I am so sorry for not spotting this question... so here we are, 2 years later (hides under the table in embarrassment).

I visited the art gallery in Oslo which is home to The Scream and it haunted me for days and weeks. I myself was in an abusive relationship at the time. Knowing how truly powerful that image was, and the way it set my pulse off at a canter; the way it felt like I was looking at my reflection in a mirror, it just had to go into the novel. I'm glad it did the trick!
