Goodreads asked Jay Allan:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Jay Allan Tough question. It's nice to be able to work at home and on my own schedule. It is also a lot of fun to develop the worlds and storylines for new books. Both of these are great, and both have negative flip sides. It is a pleasant way to earn a living, but there is a lot of pressure to keep producing good books and to keep readers happy (which is especially hard since not everyone wants to see the same thing). Also, as enjoyable as it can be to indulge creativity, sometimes it is just brutally difficult to come up with something, and you get stuck. Very frustrating.

Overall, though, I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
