Try reading a book after reading 1984 you'll see the difference in the writing. Kurt Vonnegut also has the same effect on me, I sometimes find it hard to read other authors because I'm always comparing them to Orwell. Also don't worry about being an expert in political theory and philosophy, just take the story for what it is, the story of a man living in a state run by a party who's goal it is to control the very fabric of your mind and reality.
