I write an on-line subscription journal that has a weekly deadline. This forces me to write a chapter of my novel, an essay or two, and several pieces of poetry each week. Starting this journal is the best motivation technique I've ever experienced. Sometimes it is difficult and I squeeze in just under the deadline, but I have a group of people who have paid a good price for a weekly journal and I have to come through. (Some issues are "better" than others, but my readers are wonderfully supportive.)
