Cocoa Beach:
Portia Bertram is described as "a negro" (168) and as Lydia's sister, or at least one of Lydia's father's natural daughters (331). Lydia, I presume, is not black. What is the backstory here? Is there something I missed about Portia's background? Thanks in advance.
