What quality makes a character your most loved character?
An unrelenting positive outlook combined with quirkiness.
I think one of my favorite all-time characters is Wall-E from the Disney movies, and some of the best that I create have a lot in common. Myron is very much like Wall-E. They both go about living their lives happily, unassumingly, taking joys out of simple things. And anyone who meets them discounts such characters as unworthy of their time. Until they get to know them, then their lives change for the better.
Characters that maintain a positive outlook despite horror and devastation, who strive on without complaint endear themselves far more than any angst driven hero. Add to that an amusingly skewed view of the world and you have the formula for a beloved character, one that is both entertaining to read about and fun to write.
