Hi! If a book club was going to read one of the Kate Shugak novels, which one would you recommend and why? Thank you for your time.

Dana Stabenow Though Not Dead, the 18th. There are many reasons why, but here are a few: I get to tell the last hundred years of Alaska history through the life of a character who died at the end of the previous book. One of my continuing characters, whom i thought I got offstage and out of the way of the narrative, persisted in having a life of his own and eventually helped solved the mystery in the present. And who doesn't love a scavenger hunt?

Thanks for the 21st Kate Shugak novel. Are you working on the next? I was thinking K&J Investigations as a way for Kate and Jim to work together doing what they do best. Will Jim's plane have a jump seat for Mutt?

My husband has spent the last two months reading the Kate canon, with no other books inbetween. He has noticed the increase in the length of the books, and he also wants to know if you acquired a Word of the Day calendar along the way since he's been looking up words in the latter books of the series? He is on #20, and I've kept my mouth shut with "no spoilers" for two months now! I've been reading Kate since '03.
